Nippers
Every parent wants their child to lead a happy, healthy and active youth. There is no better place for this than introducing your child to surf lifesaving and nippers.
Nippers is a junior program that introduces children aged 5 to 13 to surf lifesaving, and
teaches lessons and skills allowing them to continue in lifesaving and sport as they grow
older.
Nippers is based around the SLSA Junior Development Program which is tailored to age
groups, ensuring the content is relevant, consistent with lifesaving and surf sports’ most
up to date training standards and fun! The program is based on participation not assessment.
The Junior Development Program and age specific outcomes can be found on the SLSA
website (http://sls.com.au//members/nippers)
The nipper program at Dalyellup Beach SLSC is conducted over summer on Sunday
mornings – with a break over the Christmas period.
Nippers are placed into age groups – each age group with a specific coloured cap.
Depending on the weather and surf conditions, a full range of exercises and activities will be offered for all ages. Children are encouraged to participate in all activities; however no child will be forced to do any activity they are not confident with. Sunday morning activities normally include:
* Warm Up
* Water arena (swimming, surf awareness and boards)
* Beach arena (flags, sprints, relays)
* Team games and activities (ball games and activities to facilitate fitness)
* Education (theory, basic surf lifesaving knowledge and first aid)
Sunday morning activities commence at 9.30am and conclude at 11.00am.
